What is rephaim valley?

Rephaim Valley, also known as the Valley of the Giants, is a wide and deep valley located in Jerusalem between the Mount of Olives to the east and the city of Jerusalem to the west. The valley is mentioned in the Bible, specifically in the book of Joshua, as a significant site of a battle between Joshua and the Canaanite army.

The name “Rephaim” comes from the ancient people group who lived in the region before the Israelites. Some believe that the valley may have been a burial site for the Rephaim due to the numerous burial tombs found in the area. These ancient tombs are characterized by their massive size, with some reaching up to 50 feet in height.

Today, the Rephaim Valley is a popular tourist destination and offers stunning views of the city of Jerusalem. It is also the site of the new luxury urban neighborhood in Jerusalem known as the “Ramat Beit Hakerem” project.
